Urban Network Digital in conjunction with Music Industry Quarterly Magazine are gearing up for their Annual Music-Entertainment Conference, in Los Angeles, Calif., June 8-10, 2017, at the Hilton Hotel, 6360 Canoga Ave, Woodland Hills, CA 91367…a 20 mile drive from Hollywood, and 25 miles from Los Angeles Airport (LAX).
This is the only event of its kind on the West Coast. This was the third year in a row that the Conference took place in San Diego, California, since its return in 2014, and its second straight year at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Even City Hall recognized the impact of the Conference, with San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Proclaiming, Wednesday, June 1, 2016, Urban Network Digital & Music Industry Quarterly Entertainment Day.
The Conference kicked off with a Smooth Jazz Concert on Wednesday night, headlined by Jessy J (benefitting the Global Educational Media Network), followed by a cavalcade of Gospel Choirs and more than a dozen Christian Hip-Hop performers, with top billing from the artists on the recent MOB (Ministry Over Business)tour on Thursday night. Conference attendees were also treated to a private screening of Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story, courtesy of TV One. Senior VP of Programming, Jubba Seyyid, and award-winning actress LisaRaye (who plays record executive Sylvia Rhone) discussed the filmmaking process during an intimate Q&A, moderated by Music Industry Quarterly Publisher and Conference Co-Producer David Mitchell.
In all, nearly 90 recording artists graced the Urban Network Digital stage over 4.5 days, and capping off Sunday afternoon with more than 50 models donning new fashion lines by breakout designers such as House of A.J.reality starA.J.(12 Dress), acclaimed actress VivicaFox(Poetic Justice Jeans), veteran record executive Leo Rodgers(Sagwear), and a string of other young designers.
This Conference is the only event of its kind on the West Coast, with over 100 speakers and panelists ranging from major and indie label executives, radio programmers, DJs, talent curators, A&Rs, music supervisors, Grammy-winning songwriters and producers, trade groups, digital music strategists, film and TV consultants that sat on the dais. They included executives from many top firms and organizations, such as iHeartRadio, REVOLT TV, Sirius XM, Music Choice, BMI, SESAC, InterscopeRecords, Capitol Music Group, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, The Recording Academy, IngroovesMusic, VirDiko, Digiwaxx, and dozens more.
